New Stadium Centre in Hjørring
LED illuminates both inside and out.The old stadium in Hjørring was clapped out and worn down and not particularly inviting: especially for clubs visiting from out of town to play in the stadium.
A joint project between the Municipality of Hjørring, VUC & HF Nordjylland and Hjørring Private Secondary School resulted in a beautiful new stadium with an adjacent sports centre: one of the most sustainable in Denmark. It was essential for such a large (and expensive) building project to prioritise sustainability and energy conservation.
In association with the electrical installation contractor, Erik Lytzen, LITE A/S were responsible for all the energy-saving lighting for the Femhøje Sports Centre.
The first thing you encounter outside the Sports Centre is LITE A/S’S park lamps, HERA and "Flat Top" bollards. They illuminate the outdoor walkways beautifully, making it safe to move around outside, and at the same time highlighting the stunning architecture of the building.
When you step inside you experience the lounge area with its high ceilings. Here the light comes from BADO pendants, which add further architectural decoration to the room. The BADO lamps provide optimal light distribution and prevent glare. BADO is also available in the form of an add-on lamp (BADO SURFACE). These are fitted in low ceilings of the lounge and canteen area, providing gentle light for guests when they are eating and for sports centre staff.
Inside, all corridors have FLOW Downlights built into the ceiling. FLOW Downlights provide a pleasant, frosted light with no glare. FLOW won the 2012 Product Design Award.
The Sports Centre houses several meeting, class and conference rooms. All are fitted with B 60x60 PANEL LIGHTs, which provide a pleasant light. The panels also create a sense of greater space, because the panels are flush with the ceiling. The panels are dimmable and installed with daylight control, so the light inside adapts to the light outside. In addition to this control, this provides a better experience indoors, thus achieving a significant saving in terms of energy consumption.
The changing rooms are also fitted with B 60x60 PANEL LIGHTs as add-on lamps.
In the toilets, a decision was made to make something more of the lighting than usual. The choice was WING wall lamps, whose simple, minimalist design looks great on the rough, rustic wall. The option of adjusting the cone of light from narrow to wide both at the top and the bottom makes the lamps extremely decorative, lending the wall a lovely lighting effect.
The large halls in the sports centre were fitted with SPORTS F fixtures. With a burn time of 50,000 hours, they represent considerable energy saving. There are also savings in the operating budget, because the fixtures require no maintenance.
The SPORTS F fixtures furnish the fields with the best light – and with a clear white colour (4000K). This pleasant light is beneficial for athletes, who do not get dazzled, and the various notations on the field are more visible than before. The Sports F fixtures light up immediately, and do not "flicker" like ordinary fluorescent lamps, so both athletes and spectators feel more comfortable in the hall with this lighting. SPORTS F fixtures are dimmable for 3-5 levels of activity.
The grandstand is lit by RGB WALL WASHERs, fitted on the wall just beneath the ceiling structure. These provide an incredibly beautiful light effect.
The light can change colour (red, green and blue) and can illuminate the entire ceiling of the grandstand.
The canopy of the grandstand ceiling is fitted with ALPHA SERIES Ceiling fixtures, which provide a lovely white light, which does not dazzle the spectators.
LITE A/S’s new, innovative lighting design has made Femhøje Sports Centre one of the most sustainable sports centres in Denmark. LED lighting has resulted in major savings, and Hjørring Municipality has achieved great savings in energy consumption and, consequently, their operating budget.
The beautiful new buildings have made Femhøje Sports Centre an even greater point of attraction for children, students and athletes.
