Hotel Scandic, Aalborg

The interior of Hotel Scandic in Aalborg has undergone a major renovation. This involved a particular focus on the dining area, which was lacking contemporary style and the right ambience and atmosphere.

The hotel’s manager, Finn Rosenqvist, wanted a modern restaurant with a Scandinavian look. It was also important for the restaurant to be cosy and intimate, so that guests would want to linger – even after they had finished eating. The hotel wanted to retain the existing pendant lights over the tables as the main lighting for dinner. It was important for the lighting to be dimmable in order to provide the intimate atmosphere. Since the main lighting was in place, the next task was to focus on effect lighting to emphasise the new, contemporary design, which the restaurant had acquired. RGB strips on the restaurant’s collar beams created the desired effect. The light was placed under the beams, shining down through an airy curtain, which serves as a room divider. Multi-coloured strips allow the hotel to customise colours to suit themes, corporate events or just to display the logo colour of the hotel.

In addition to the restaurant, Hotel Scandic also wished to change their entrance area to make it appear more welcoming and modern. Down-lights were fitted on the exterior of the hotel’s entrance, clearly indicating the location of the reception area. When guests enter, they encounter a reception area, which has also been updated and modernised. In addition, to create focus on the area, where guests have to present themselves on arrival, the reception area was highlighted with LED strips surrounding the whole reception desk – in a warm, welcoming colour!
